Anne-Laure Fréant trained as a geographer in Paris and Montreal. She worked for 2 years as a research assistant in the geography department of UQAM (University of Quebec in Montreal), teaching a course on the geography of Quebec. The difficulties of financing a Ph.D. for several years led her to take a part-time job in tech… where she found a sustainable career path.

For the past 12 years, Anne-Laure has worked in Canada and France as a technical writer for various startups and public institutions, while developing an interest in artistic & documentary research.

She obtained in 2021 a Political Arts master’s degree at Sciences Po Paris and worked on a commission for ANDRA (French Agency for Nuclear Waste Management) on ways of invoking art in the context of contested state industrial projects such as Bure.

Anne-Laure uses photography, writing, and digital tools to reflect on industrial history and heritage, infrastructure studies, construction workers’ mobility, and temporary housing forms.
